Why merge tags?
With multiple versions of the same tags naturally emerging in a taxonomy over time, or misspellings creeping in, from time to time you may want to merge multiple tags into a single existing one.
Example
- A client has in their ‘Era’ tag category both the tags ‘1980s’ and ‘80s’
- The client doesn’t want both in this category and just wants the ‘80s’ tag to be used
- ‘1980s’ can be merged into the tag that is wanted in this category to solve this issue
How to merge tags
- Log into the admin
- Navigate to Catalog > Tags
- Click the pencil icon on the tag you want to merge away
- In the Edit tag modal, rename the tag to the exact name of the tag you’d like to merge it into, within the same category (e.g. 1980s is renamed 80s for the merge to occur)
- Press save
- Refresh the page to see the change
The two tags will now be merged into one. If the tag was assigned to many tracks / albums / playlists, there may be a delay as we loop over the set, and resave all the instances.
